Unplanned Outage – San Juan County
April 15

Wednesday, April 15 UPDATE @ 9:45 pm – Outage has been restored. This outage was caused by equipment failure on the mainland. The resulting smaller outages happened on the OPALCO system due to fuses that failed when the power was restored.
7:05 pm – There are currently some residual unplanned outages affecting members in Friday Harbor and the Roche Harbor area on San Juan Island. Crews are aware of all remaining outages and are working to restore power to all members. Thank you for your continued patience.
5:25 pm – The transmission from the mainland to the OPALCO grid has been restored! At this time, we are still experiencing multiple outages throughout San Juan County as a result of restoration of power. OPALCO crews are aware and will respond as quickly as possible to safely re-energize all members. If you are still out of power, please give us a call or report the outage in smarthub so we can be sure to get to you. Thank you to our mainland partners at PSE and BPA for their help in restoring this outage, and to all our wonderful community members in San Juan County for looking out for one another. You make the islands great!
5:15 pm – We have just received word from BPA that they have begun the restoration of transmission from the mainland to the islands. It may still take time for OPALCO members to be re-energized, but the process has been started. We truly appreciate your patience with us as we have been working to resolve this as quickly as possible.
4:30 pm – The outage is no longer listed on the PSE outage map, as crews have restored the downed line on the mainland and restored power to Anacortes. At this time, we are waiting for PSE to restore the transmission that gets the power from the mainland to us. Once that is restored, we can begin re-energizing all meters. Stay tuned. Thank you for your patience everyone!
4:10 pm – PSE crews have been in the process of restoring this outage for a while. As soon as we get the go ahead from our partners at PSE and BPA, we can begin slowly re-energizing all meters in San Juan County. When we know more, we will update here immediately. Thank you.
2:15 pm – There are no new updates at this time, we are still waiting on PSE crews to restore the downed line. Thank you all for your understanding.
12:45 pm – PSE crews are on site and are awaiting the arrival of a larger bucket truck to safely restore the line. As we hear more updates we will post them here. Thank you for your continued patience and for sharing outage updates with your neighbors. IMG_2272
11:40 am – PSE crews continue to work to restore this outage. There are no new updates at this time. Stay tuned for more information.
10:30 am – We have confirmed that there is a wire down (see attached photos) and a cruiser on site at this PSE outage. PSE crews are responding and assessing any further damages. While there is still no estimated time of restoration, we do not anticipate this being an overnight outage. We will continue to update hourly or as information becomes available.
9:20 am – Please disregard the most recent alert email from OPALCO called “Mainland Emergency Overnight Outage”. This post is an old post template that was sent in error. A new corrected post will be sent out to members shortly. At this time, we are not anticipating this to be an overnight outage. Thank you for your understanding.
8:50 am – PSE has confirmed that this outage has been caused by an accident on the mainland, and crews are assessing damages. For more information from PSE as it arrives, please visit the PSE outage map: https://www.pse.com/en/outage/outage-map/outage-details?lat=48.48872&lng=-122.66657 . While there is no estimated restoration time available, we are anticipating this outage will take longer than 4 hours to restore. Please stay tuned for additional updates as we receive them.
8:30 am – We are experiencing a system wide outage that is affecting all of San Juan County. This is a PSE (Puget Sound Energy) outage that is originating on the mainland. PSE crews and some BPA (Bonneville Power Administration) crew members are investigating the cause of this outage. At this time, there is no estimation restoration time available. We will update hourly or as more information is made available. Thank you for your understanding.
