October is National Cooperative Month!
What is Co-op Month?
National Cooperative month is a time to reflect on what makes co-ops special. Cooperatives put people before profits, serve the community and give you and your neighbors the power to make local decisions. Without our members, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
Co-op month is not only a chance to celebrate cooperatives and all that is great about them, but it is also a chance to celebrate and give back to our members!
Calendar Photo Contest
We are asking OPALCO members to submit a photo for the first ever co-op month photo contest! We will be putting together a 2027 calendar that will feature 13 original photos from members throughout San Juan County and will then be available for free for OPALCO members to take. Entering is simple, and winners get to have their beautiful photography featured in the calendar!
Members who choose to participate can submit any photo for consideration that meets the requirements – photos must be taken by the member, and of someone, something, or some place in San Juan County. We want to keep it local and celebrate all the beauty around us! The full rules for submission are below.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & RULES:
- Must be an active OPALCO member to be selected to win
- File upload must be saved as a JPEG at a minimum quality of 300 DPI, sized 11in. x 9in., and under 30 MB per photo
- You can submit up to 3 photos
- Photo can be of any subject, as long as it is taken in San Juan County. AI generated photos are not accepted.
- Name and date your photo upon submission

As a way to give thanks and give back to our members, OPALCO is hosting a grand prize giveaway to celebrate co-op month! 6 winners will be chosen at random out of all those who enter.
Winners can choose 1 prize from our grand-prize menu, after which OPALCO will order and send straight to your house! No pickup necessary.
