Calling All San Juan County Business Owners!

Now’s the time to Energize your Business with Powerful Incentives!

OPALCO has been awarded grants funds to help business owners become more energy efficient. We are partnered with Sustainable Connections (part of the Opportunity Council family) to give islanders easy access to energy experts who have all the tools, incentives, and technical assistance to help local businesses and farms save energy and money through efficiency upgrades and solar projects.

Participants in the Energize program receive a full energy audit and a customized energy action plan. The plan includes how to access rebates, grants, and exclusive incentives – including free LED lighting upgrades and cash rebates! Solar assessments are also available at no extra charge.

Available incentives:

  • 50% of energy improvement and solar projects can be covered by grants; Sustainable Connections will support you through the whole process
  • 30% tax credit off solar panel costs
  • $5,000 in energy saving incentives – including up to $1,000 in LED light bulbs
  • $50 detailed energy audit (grant funding reduces cost from $200)
  • Additional rebates and on-bill financing from OPALCO

Steps to Energize your Business:

  1. Contact energy@sustainableconnections.org or visit communityenergychallenge.org. They will collect basic information about your business and energy use.
  2. Schedule a discounted energy audit ($50). An energy advisor will walk through your facility and identify your biggest energy saving opportunities.
  3. Review the recommendations. Meet with your advisor to discuss final report, ask questions, and learn about potential costs and savings.
  4. Decide which projects make sense for your business and the incentives that work for those projects.
  5. Get bids and finalize financing. The Community Energy Challenge team will assist you in getting bids from local contractors and applying for grants and rebates.
  6. Install and start saving!

Energy costs are on the rise. Taking advantage of these incentives now makes good sense and will position businesses for a more affordable and sustainable energy future.

While the Energize program serves businesses only, OPALCO does have rebates and on-bill financing available for residential members.
