All month long, OPALCO and Orcas Island Fire & Rescue are partnering with the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank to host a what3words Bingo Adventure aimed to help San Juan County residents get familiar with a free, potentially lifesaving app. what3words assigns every 10-foot square on Earth a unique three-word address, making it easy to share precise locations even without cell service or street addresses—perfect for emergencies, trails, and hidden spots around the county.

To play, grab a Bingo board (August Ruralite magazine, online, at the OPALCO Eastsound office, or OIFR headquarters), use the app to find each square’s location, then visit and photograph the sign or landmark there. Go for a small win or a full blackout—it’s up to you!

Complete your board anytime in August, and bring it with your photos to OPALCO or OIFR between August 17–21 to claim a prize. Any Bingo earns a safety-themed goodie; a blackout earns the full swag bag. Questions or need an alternate pickup time? Email bingo@orcasfire.org.
