OPALCO’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Continues at the County Fair!

There is something for everyone at OPALCO’s County Fair booth this year! The Fair is the last stop in a long chain of events in celebration of Orcas Power & Light’s 75th Anniversary.

Safety is OPALCO’s top priority. The OPALCO linemen will be on hand to give kids an exciting and important safety demonstration and will be giving out cool safety t-shirts to the most engaged audience members, while supplies last.

Kids are invited to pick up a 75th Anniversary Coloring Page at local libraries an OPALCO offices. Kids who bring their completed drawing to the OPALCO booth at the Fair will receive a special commemorative 75th Anniversary prize, and their drawings will be displayed in the booth. Selected drawings may be displayed in OPALCO offices and online at www.opalco.com.

Co-op members are invited to stop into the booth and record their stories and memories about OPALCO’s history. The 1930s living room set includes a comfortable chair and a “can” that members can talk into to preserve their bits of co-op history. Recordings will be added to OPALCO’s archives, and some will be published on the historical website for all to enjoy. Who can record a story? Anyone with a memory or story to share. Everyone who records will get a commemorative gift.

Staff will be on hand most of each day to talk about OPALCO’s programs including Energy Efficiency, Rebates and the Broadband Initiative. There will be information on Renewable Energy, including the MORE (Member Owned Renewable Energy) Program, a member-supported initiative that provides financial incentives for local renewable energy production. Members can sign up to support MORE for as little as $4 a month.

Members can also sign up to Round Up their bills each month in support of Project PAL, which provides financial assistance during the heating months to co-op members in need, especially seniors and people with disabilities. Rounding up your electric bill costs no more than $11.99 per year and goes a long way to help co-op neighbors in need. When you sign-up for Round Up at the Fair, you will receive a limited-edition 75th Anniversary gift.

The booth will be staffed all day long with knowledgeable co-op member-owner-operators to answer your questions and help you get the most value from your electric utility. And, to get the full 75th Anniversary Experience, check out the timeline, photos, story and video galleries at www.opalco.com/history—and “like” us on Facebook (Orcas Power & Light), where you can also share stories, photos and memorabilia. See you at the Fair!
