On a cold, very windy, soggy rainy winter night, our power went out. Turns out it was just in our neighborhood, so just a dozen or so homes, but OPALCO had it fixed in a matter of hours. It involved them coming out in the terrible weather, late at night, precisely locating the failure in a buried cable, digging it up, repairing it, restoring the hole and surroundings back to what it looked like before the dig. All in a few hours.
Thank you to the crew and the team back at the office – dispatch, engineering, member services.
Thank you OPALCO Linemen.
Our OPALCO line crews are superb at restoring power; under terrible weather conditions, 24/7.
Working in the emergency services, we often request them to cut power under dangerous and high tempo situations.
OPALCO has also been called upon to help during other crisis; from cats in trees, to grounding gasoline tankers, to helping restore communications during a countywide phone system crash.
I consider OPALCO and their linecrews a High Reliability Organization and a public safety partner.
When situations are at their worst, they are at their best.
Patrick Shepler, Battalion Chief, Orcas Island Fire & Rescue
