En la reuni\u00f3n de la junta del 15 de marzo en Friday Harbor, la Junta aprob\u00f3 un aumento de tarifas de aproximadamente 3% en todos los \u00e1mbitos, as\u00ed como algunos cambios en el cronograma de dep\u00f3sitos y tarifas, para cubrir los gastos operativos del presupuesto actual. El aumento de tarifas entra en vigor con la facturaci\u00f3n de marzo. Las nuevas tarifas y tasas est\u00e1n publicadas en l\u00ednea \u2013 haga clic aqu\u00ed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Como cooperativa sin fines de lucro propiedad de sus miembros, OPALCO suministra electricidad a precio de costo a veinte islas en San Juan. El Directorio de OPALCO est\u00e1 involucrado en un revisi\u00f3n en profundidad de la estructura de tarifas de la cooperativa<\/a>. Este aumento de tarifas es el primer paso para cubrir los gastos operativos. Adem\u00e1s, la Junta ha encargado un estudio de costo del servicio que ayudar\u00e1 a la Junta a examinar todas las tarifas y la estructura general de tarifas en comparaci\u00f3n con los determinantes de facturaci\u00f3n en nuestro contrato actual con Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). OPALCO realiza estudios de costo de servicio cada 4 o 5 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

El contrato actual de la Cooperativa con BPA incluye una estructura de tarifas escalonadas que garantiza a la Cooperativa una cierta cantidad de (principalmente) energ\u00eda hidroel\u00e9ctrica hasta un techo medido de demanda (llamado nuestra marca m\u00e1xima). Cuando la carga de nuestra cooperativa supere esa marca m\u00e1xima, BPA comprar\u00e1 energ\u00eda a precios de mercado para satisfacer la demanda adicional. Si bien este aumento no est\u00e1 relacionado con las tarifas escalonadas, el estudio general de la estructura de tarifas pronosticar\u00e1 el impacto potencial de las tarifas escalonadas en el futuro.<\/p>\n

El Gerente General Randy Cornelius anticipa que, con nuestro crecimiento relativamente lento en el consumo de electricidad en el Condado de San Juan de alrededor de 1% por a\u00f1o, no estaremos sujetos a las tarifas del mercado (Nivel 2) hasta aproximadamente 2014. \u201cComo miembros de la cooperativa trabajando juntos\u201d, dijo Cornelius, \u201cpodemos anticiparnos a las tarifas del mercado administrando nuestra carga a trav\u00e9s de comportamientos de conservaci\u00f3n y eficiencia energ\u00e9tica. Si todos colaboramos y hacemos lo que podamos para que nuestros hogares y negocios sean m\u00e1s eficientes energ\u00e9ticamente, los ahorros ser\u00e1n significativos\u201d.<\/p>\n
