Como cooperativa el\u00e9ctrica, el margen al final de cualquier a\u00f1o vuelve a manos de los miembros. Cada a\u00f1o, la Cooperativa realiza un seguimiento de cu\u00e1nto paga usted por la energ\u00eda y determina qu\u00e9 parte del margen recibir\u00e1 como asignaci\u00f3n de cr\u00e9dito de capital para su membres\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Los dividendos del cr\u00e9dito de capital se pagan a los miembros despu\u00e9s de 25 a\u00f1os y cada a\u00f1o el Directorio aprueba los desembolsos. Los cheques que se enviar\u00e1n este a\u00f1o son para miembros activos en 1998 y 1999 y se enviar\u00e1n por correo el 18 de diciembre. Los montos de los cheques oscilan entre cinco d\u00f3lares y miles (para grandes consumidores de energ\u00eda, como las tiendas de comestibles); la mayor\u00eda de los cheques son por entre $50 \u2013 250.<\/p>\n<p>El a\u00f1o pasado se donaron m\u00e1s de $15,000 provenientes de verificaciones de cr\u00e9dito de capital para apoyar el Proyecto Pal, uno de los programas de asistencia energ\u00e9tica de OPALCO. Project Pal ofrece una subvenci\u00f3n \u00fanica (por a\u00f1o) a miembros de bajos ingresos durante la temporada de calefacci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Este a\u00f1o, casi 6.000 miembros recibir\u00e1n verificaciones de cr\u00e9dito de capital. Los cr\u00e9ditos de capital representan la propiedad de cada miembro en la Cooperativa. OPALCO no obtiene beneficios. En cambio, los ingresos que exceden el costo de hacer negocios se denominan \u201cm\u00e1rgenes\u201d. Estos m\u00e1rgenes representan un pr\u00e9stamo sin intereses para capital operativo hecho a la cooperativa por los miembros y luego devuelto en forma de cr\u00e9ditos de capital al miembro despu\u00e9s de 25 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>En 2018, OPALCO comenz\u00f3 a utilizar una metodolog\u00eda de suavizaci\u00f3n para garantizar que las jubilaciones generales sean lo m\u00e1s uniformes posible de un a\u00f1o a otro y para planificar los mayores m\u00e1rgenes que se produzcan. As\u00ed, se distribuy\u00f3 todo el a\u00f1o 1998, m\u00e1s aproximadamente 54% de 1999. Esto ayuda a OPALCO a presupuestar el efectivo necesario para pagar los cr\u00e9ditos de capital y mantiene los m\u00e1rgenes de la cooperativa en manos de los miembros.
