Hay un edificio nuevo en la cuadra. Justo en medio de Main Street en Eastsound en Orcas Island, el nuevo edificio que alberga la oficina de Windemere Real Estate y The Village Inn es un modelo de sostenibilidad y eficiencia.<\/p>\n

Hace cinco a\u00f1os, Mariah y John Dunning tuvieron una visi\u00f3n para este proyecto. Se tomaron su tiempo para desarrollarlo de manera cuidadosa, responsable y de una manera alineada con sus valores y la est\u00e9tica de la isla.<\/p>\n

El edificio abri\u00f3 sus puertas a principios de este a\u00f1o. El edificio est\u00e1 orientado a aprovechar al m\u00e1ximo la luz natural y dise\u00f1ado para optimizar la eficiencia con productos de ahorro de energ\u00eda, como iluminaci\u00f3n LED que funciona con un temporizador o sensor de movimiento, bombas de calor sin ductos y mantas aislantes para las paredes exteriores.<\/p>\n

El edificio con visi\u00f3n de futuro utiliza materiales de origen \u00e9tico, como alfombras hechas de botellas de agua recicladas, madera sostenible o de comercio justo; marcos de puertas met\u00e1licas de coches rescatados; y telas 100% fabricadas en los Estados Unidos. Los productos utilizados dentro del edificio est\u00e1n bien investigados y son ecol\u00f3gicos, incluidos art\u00edculos de tocador biodegradables y aptos para las abejas; y una estaci\u00f3n de recarga de botellas de agua disponible para que la use cualquier persona en Eastsound.<\/p>\n

\"bombaSe necesitaron unos tres a\u00f1os para permitir y dise\u00f1ar el edificio. La construcci\u00f3n comenz\u00f3 a principios de 2020, lo que coincidi\u00f3 con la pandemia de COVID-19. La pandemia desaceler\u00f3 significativamente las cosas y los costos comenzaron a aumentar. Esto empuj\u00f3 a los Dunning hacia el programa de financiaci\u00f3n en factura de OPALCO para el aislamiento, las ventanas y las bombas de calor sin ductos.<\/p>\n

Poder financiar el proyecto a una tasa de inter\u00e9s tan baja nos permiti\u00f3 mantener el rumbo con nuestra visi\u00f3n. \"miembrosMariah y John se casaron hace seis a\u00f1os, pero se conocen desde hace d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n

Mariah se gradu\u00f3 de la escuela secundaria de la isla Orcas y regres\u00f3 a las islas cuando ten\u00eda 20 a\u00f1os para ayudar a sus padres en Radio Shack. A partir de ah\u00ed empez\u00f3 a trabajar en el sector inmobiliario. Tiene una hija en la escuela secundaria en Spring Street International School.<\/p>\n

John creci\u00f3 viniendo a las islas cuando era ni\u00f1o y se convirti\u00f3 en residente de tiempo completo a fines de la d\u00e9cada de 1990. Primero vivi\u00f3 en la Isla San Juan y se mud\u00f3 a Orcas en 2014.<\/p>\n

La pareja quiere hacer del mundo un lugar mejor para las generaciones futuras y hacer todo lo posible para mejorar el medio ambiente. Comenzaron a ver el impacto del consumo a mayor escala a trav\u00e9s de su negocio de alquiler vacacional, Northwest Island Escapes, y comenzaron a invertir mucho tiempo en encontrar productos que reduzcan la huella de las personas que visitan las islas.<\/p>\n

"Puede que sea un poco m\u00e1s caro comprar estos productos, pero vale la pena la inversi\u00f3n a largo plazo para la Tierra", dice John.<\/p>\n

A la pareja le encanta trabajar junta y este proyecto es una verdadera culminaci\u00f3n de su vida en com\u00fan. Han viajado por todo el mundo y quer\u00edan asegurarse de que todas las habitaciones de la posada tuvieran buena iluminaci\u00f3n, camas c\u00f3modas y pudieran acomodar a toda la familia, incluidas las mascotas. El estacionamiento en la parte inferior del edificio incluye cuatro estaciones de carga de veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos y la iluminaci\u00f3n exterior es respetuosa con la vida silvestre.<\/p>\n
