Setting Your Meter

OPALCO will install the meter in the permanent meterbase that was authorized by OPALCO and installed by a responsible party or electrician. The meterbase shall only be energized after the following steps have been completed:

  • all ditches are backfilled.
  • the service has been inspected, approved, and tagged by the state electrical inspector.
  • it has been confirmed that the meterbase installation has met the requirements as outlined in the Meter and Meterbase Specifications.

Under normal conditions, the meter will be set within 72 hours from the time of the call to OPALCO operations, advising that the above conditions have been met. Members may be charged a service fee if OPALCO is requested to install a meter but the meterbase is not installed correctly or has not been inspected.
