Payment to OPALCO of the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) authorizes OPALCO to begin the formal process of design, procurement, and documentation required for the installation of electrical service to a given location.
OPALCO requires 60 days notice for any new or modified service. Depending on present inventory, workload, and size and nature of work, expect two to four weeks for the design and documentation process to be completed. At this point, OPALCO’s Operations Department may be contacted to coordinate scheduling of work.
Design
OPALCO has sole authority over the placement and routing of OPALCO maintained facilities and conductors.
OPALCO will not put any primary distribution cable into service that does not meet current cable specifications and installation practices. Any facilities, which remain inactive for longer than 12 months, are subject to line retention or abandonment by OPALCO.
All single-phase 400 amps or less and all three-phase 200 amp meterbases with overcurrent protection shall be approved through OPALCO’s engineering department before installation.
All single-phase services of 600 amps and over, or more than 200 amps three-phase, shall be Current Transformer (CT) meterbases. Installation will require a separate, member-supplied, single service disconnect that includes overcurrent protection, and is located within two feet of the CT enclosure.
All ganged meter packs shall be pre-approved by OPALCO and contain a single service disconnect that includes overcurrent protection for each meter.
All new line extensions must be installed underground. All trenching shall be provided by the responsible party, and must meet the requirements set forth by OPALCO.
