OPALCOGRAM 158 1/4/96 NEXT PREVIOUS Doug Bechtel This is now my first OPALCOGRAM of 1996. It is also a major change at OPALCO. 1995 had a lot of major personnel changes. In March, Vern Coffelt, the Orcas Superintendent, retired after working for OPALCO for 35 years. In September, George Goff, the San Juan Superintendent, also left after 33 years. This marks the last OPALCOGRAM that I will be doing with my secretary, Carol Merrill, who is retiring on January 5th after 21 years with OPALCO. It is going to seem different doing these OPALCOGRAMS with a different person. Occasionally I will write them out long hand or type them on a computer, but I dictate the vast majority of them to Carol, who takes them down in shorthand and makes them look like I know what I am talking about. A major part of the credit for all of these OPALCOGRAMS goes to Carol, who won't let a Friday go by without squeezing an OPALCOGRAM out of me to make the newspaper's deadline. I have always felt that change is good, but this is the kind of change that is going to take a lot of getting used to -- for Carol, who doesn't have to come to work anymore and for me, who will have to learn to do these OPALCOGRAMs without Carol's help.
