MEMBERSHIP:
OPALCO is a non-profit member cooperative. We sell power only to the members of our cooperative. To become a member you must sign an application in which you agree to be bound by the rules and regulations (see Bylaws & Tariffs) of Orcas Power & Light Cooperative. You will also be required to pay a $5.00 membership fee (which is refundable if you terminate your service with us). If a person has more than one account, only one membership fee is required.

NEW ACCOUNT REQUESTS:
Electrical service may be applied for by coming into our main office in Eastsound on Orcas Island or our branch office in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island during regular business hours (8:00am - 4:30pm). Our Lopez office is staffed with Member Services personnel on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, due to the ever-changing ferry schedule, we advise you to call the Lopez office at 376-3546 to make sure that someone will be there.

SERVICE CHARGE:
There is a non-refundable $20.00 service charge each time an account is opened. This charge is also required for setting up an additional account for an existing member.

CONSUMER DEPOSITS:
Since electric service is used prior to its billing, you may be required to post a deposit before service is connected. The amount of the deposit shall initially be $125.00. This amount may be decreased when usage pattern and payment history has been established with OPALCO. The deposit will be refunded after twelve months of on-time payments or, if desired, may be applied to you final bill. Interest is not paid on deposits.

OPALCO will normally waive the required deposit if:

NEW SERVICE REQUESTS:

A new service (first time power to a location) may be requested following the same procedures as with a new account request. In addition, you must complete an Application for Electrical Service which will furnish OPALCO with information necessary to construct the proper facilities to serve you. We will provide you with a written estimate of the cost to provide the necessary facilities. You will be required to make a non-refundable contribution to OPALCO for the cost to provide these facilities. An OPALCO representative can explain this process in more detail.
