The following information is provided as a service to you and is not intended to be an interpretation of the law. The UULC encourages all excavators to get a current copy of the state law and become familiar with it.

 

Washington State RCW 19.122

  • Notice
At least 2 business days and not more than 10 business days prior to excavation.
  • Utility Responses
Upon receiving notification, the underground facility owner shall respond within 2 business days or before the excavation begins, at their option, by marking the facility.
  • Reasonable Accuracy
Within 24 inches of outside dimensions of both sides of an underground facility.
  • Excavator Responsibility
Excavators shall not excavate until all known underground facilities have been marked. Once marked, the excavator is responsible to maintain marks.
  • Penalties
Civil penalty of not more than $1,000.00 per violation.
Damage resulting from failure to notify subject to triple damages.
